He has been a featured panelist at the NIST Cloud Industry Day and serves on the AWS Customer Advisory Board to offer expertise on the AWS GovCloud Region.
Mr. Atkinson is a leader in AWS, dating back to 2009, when he and JHC co-founder James Hirmas paired to architect and deploy the first Government website on public cloud infrastructure. That project, Recovery.gov, combined SharePoint on AWS and included a fully configured test and development environment delivered nine days from contract award. Since that time, Mr. Atkinson has continued to lead Government agencies in adopting AWS, from the development of roadmaps to the deployment of FISMA Moderate solutions. His guidance has helped earn an ATO for a full enterprise-wide datacenter migration to AWS. Previously, Mr. Atkinson managed largest and fastest data migration and Blackberry deployments at the FBI, where more than 43,000 accounts and 20,000 Blackberry devices were migrated and deployed worldwide in less than five months. Additionally, he architected and deployed the FBI’s first production virtualized server environments. He has also led the introduction of secure mobile devices to the DEA as early as 2004.
