Putting the “eh” in AWS is what the mantra said, from the phrase on AWS shirts to the stickers for computers. I can’t argue with the sentiment as that seemed to be exactly what AWS was accomplishing during its first Public Sector Summit on Oct. 29-30 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Fast forward a few years and a few thousand services later, and AWS was able to register more than 1,100 attendees for its Ottawa summit. There were nearly two dozen vendors, including JHC Technology as a Gold Sponsor, and interest across many Government of Canada (GC) organizations. With a Montreal region established in late 2016, the higher education institutions, non-profit communities, and GC agencies have already had critical exposure to cloud capabilities. It showed by the great discussions we had around migrations, cloud security, and DevOps. The keynote speakers gave tremendous insight into projects that are rapidly engaging Government constituents as well as within the art community, with a goal of centralized capabilities to support a group of smaller art galleries. Given our work with the National Gallery of Art in the US, it will be interesting to track the progress of this effort and see where we may be able to replicate any successes.

For the JHC Technology team, it was fantastic to understand the dynamics of cloud in the Canadian Public Sector. With the enthusiasm of the early adopters and those that are moving forward with the country’s Cloud First policy, the path is bright. The AWS Team in Canada is also first rate and expanding quickly to meet demand. JHC Technology will have some big news coming soon as it relates to Canada and I can’t be happier about the possibilities in the country on the heels of a successful first AWS Public Sector Summit.
